What is a Fixed Deposit?

A fixed deposit is a financial investment option that allows you to deposit a certain amount of money with a bank or NBFCs for a fixed period.

How is a Fixed Deposit Calculated?

Several key factors come into play when calculating interest earned on fixed deposits:
• Principal Amount
• Interest Rate
• Tenure
• Compounding Frequency

Here’s the formula:

Interest = (P X R X T)/ 100
P - Principal amount invested
R - Rate of interest (%)
T - Tenure

Ms Pragya invested Rs 100,000 for 10 years at an interest rate of 5% per annum
Simple Interest = (₹100,000 X 5 X 10 years)/100 = ₹50,000
The principal amount invested is Rs 100,000
The rate of interest (%) is 5% per annum
The tenure of the investment made is 10 years
Maturity Value = Principal amount + Simple Interest
= ₹100,000 + ₹50,000
= ₹150,000
